Suzy has had a lovely time this year delivering the DAY of CALM to children and adults within 4 Norwich School Sport Partnership Schools this academic year. In total she has delivered 5 days at different schools to 721 students and 44 school staff.
During the day she sees all classes from the primary school or a secondary school year group. They will spend around half an hour with her.
A session consists of breathing practices, active listening, tai chi and some meditation with visualisations. At the end of the session, she asks if the students feel calmer now than when they walked in, if they have learnt something they will share with others at home and if they will try to do an activity from the session every day of their life. The majority of the students in a session say ‘yes‘ to all these questions.
Suzy has one tip that she would like to share one thing with everybody – “4,5,6 breathing” – it’s simple – just do 10 of these – you’ll feel calmer for sure – breathe in through your nose for the count of 4, hold your breath for the count of 5 then blow out through your nose for the count of 6.
She leave the school feeling very calm and hoping the school is a calmer place to be for everyone in that school community.
