SSP Inclusive Festival saw children from different schools try new sports!

The SSP Year 3-6 Inclusive Festival saw six schools bring pupils with Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) to participate in Cricket, Boccia, Table Tennis and Tennis to try some sports they may not have done before.

Inclusive Sports Festivals are an event that give pupils with a SEND the opportunity to receive all of the benefits of representing their school in an off site sports event alongside pupils from other schools.

The six schools at the festival were;

  • Bignold Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • The Clare School
  • Colman Junior School
  • Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • West Earlham Junior School

Each sport was led by a specialist coach in that sport, we had Lewis and Peter from Norfolk Cricket for Cricket, Roy from Boccia England for Boccia, Mark and Von from Wensum Table Tennis for Table Tennis and Derek from East Anglia Tennis and Squash Club for Tennis.

The event was held at Sportspark over a three hour period and the coaches were assisted by sports students from Easton & Otley College. The activities had the duration of 30 minutes

George Harmer, Project Officer commented;

“It was great to see so many pupils trying new sports and learning new skills. It’s also great to have this opportunity for the children to have coaching from specialist coaches. I really hope this has inspired them to try new sports and look into sports clubs in the local community.”

If the children enjoyed the activities, you can check out the Clubs Page to find a local club.
