Pupils enjoy getting active at SSP Change4Life Festival

Over 80 Year 2-4 children who do not usually take part in physical activity enjoyed two hours of fun activities at the out of school at the Change4Life Festival at City Academy Norwich.

The children participated in six activities spending 15 minutes on each activity. The activities were not sports, they were fun games and challenges. These involved; obstacle courses, giant noughts and crosses, slalom relays and more. The schools who attended split their groups up so that the children could join another group and spend time with pupils from other schools helping their social interaction too.

The schools that attended today were;

  • Bignold Primary School
  • Chapel Break Infant School
  • Colman Junior School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Norwich Primary Academy
  • West Earlham Infant School
  • West Earlham Junior School

Pupils were hand picked to attend this event by their schools and giving them the opportunity to represent their schools at an event. There was awards for children who showed great sportsmanship at the festival and they were presented the Sportsmanship Award at the end in front of all the pupils.

The activities were led by Year 9-10 Sports Leaders from City Academy Norwich, they instructed, encouraged and helped the young pupils in the different challenges.

George Harmer, Project Officer commented;

“It was really nice to see so many children who do not usually participate in physical activity, enjoying themselves for two hours and not realising they were doing physical activity. Change4Life is great in having activities in fun ways allowing children to exercise without realising.”

The next Change4Life Festival will be on Friday 8th June.
