Over 700 pupils take to Earlham Park to compete in Cross Country

Yesterday, over 700 pupils came to Earlham Park to represent their school in the Year 2-6 Cross Country Competition. The event is part of the Norfolk School Games programme where some finishers are invited to represent the School Sport Partnership at the School Games Cross Country Finals.

The schools that took part in the event were;

  • Avenue Junior School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • Colman Junior School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Free School Norwich
  • Hethersett VC Junior
  • Lakenham Primary School
  • Little Melton Primary School
  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • Norwich Primary Academy
  • Notre Dame Preparatory School
  • St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • Wensum Junior School
  • West Earlham Infant School
  • Valley Primary School

It was a blustery autumn day and each of the races featured a course with plenty of hills. The distance of each race was adapted depending on the year group. The distances were approximately;

  • Year 2: 1000m
  • Year 3&4: 1400m
  • Year 5&6: 1600m

All of the pupils did a great job, learning how to pace themselves throughout the race, and there was plenty of support around the course from all the schools, as well as family and friends.

Images of the event can be viewed in the Photo Gallery.

The results of the event can be viewed here.

The top ten placed girls and boys in Years 3 to 6 will be invited to take part in the Norfolk School Games Cross Country Finals that will take place on Wednesday 6th March 2019. This event will be held at Holkham Hall.

Thank you to the students from Easton and Otley College came to assist the event where they acted as marshals and also ran the course alongside the pupils to act as a lead runner.
