This morning, saw the second SSP Yr 2-4 Change4Life Festival of the academic year held at City Academy Norwich. The aim of the event is to engage those who may be traditionally less active to engage in a range of fun activities and to encourage them, and increase their confidence to participate in physical activity and sport opportunities in the future.
The event was attended by over 70 pupils from seven different schools. The schools that attended the event were;
- Bignold Primary School
- Bluebell Primary School
- Charles Darwin Primary School
- Colman Junior School
- Norwich Primary Academy
- St Francis of Assisi Primary School
- West Earlham Infant School
The event allowed the pupils to participate in a carousel of different activities and games. Each was led by Sports Leaders from City Academy Norwich. The pupils had approximately 10 minutes to try each before rotating onto the next. The activities included a range of games that focused on different skills, such as throwing and catching that can be implemented into future activities.
Mr Frere-Smith from Charles Darwin Primary said;
“The pupils enjoyed the event. They liked being able to make friends with children from other schools and a chance to visit another school. It was nice to see the pupils interact with the older children from City Academy”.
Ms Brais from Colman Junior School added;
“It was a lovely event for less confident children to have a chance. The pupils loved it and became more confident as the morning continued”.
At the end of the event, some pupils were nominated by the school staff to receive a Sportsmanship Award, for showing good qualities such as team work, respect and encouraging others. Each of the pupils was provided with a certificate to take home with them outlining why they had been nominated for the award.
Thank you to the students from City Academy for their help during the event.
