Over 650 Pupils Race In The School Games Yr 2-6 Cross Country Competition

Yesterday saw the first School Games event of the year with almost 700 pupils from 17 schools taking part in the Year 2-6 Cross Country at Earlham Park. This event forms part of the Norfolk School Games programme which provides the opportunity for pupils to represent their school in competitive sport.

The schools that took part in the event were;

  • Avenue Junior School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • Colman Junior School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Free School Norwich
  • Hethersett Primary School
  • Lakenham Primary School
  • Little Melton Primary School
  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • St Michaels Junior School
  • Wensum Junior School
  • West Earlham Infant School
  • West Earlham Junior School
  • Valley Primary School

The course took them around Earlham Park and featured some steep uphill sections as well as plenty of flat and downhill elements. It was a tough course for all the pupils involves who had to learn how to pace themselves around the course. The distance of each race was adapted depending on the year group, with Year 6 running the furthest distance.

There was plenty of support for all the runners with family, friends and schools lining the course to cheer everyone on. It was a great atmosphere and good to see all runners supporting each other.

Images from the event can also be viewed in the Photo Gallery.

Congratulations to the top ten boys and girls from Year 3-6 who are now invited to represent the SSP at the Norfolk School Games Finals. These will be taking place at Holkham Hall on Wednesday 4th March 2020.
