Over 300 Year 2 Pupils show off their skills at the SSP Multi Skills Festival

Today we had over 300 Year 2’s participate in two SSP Multi Skills Festivals at Easton & Otley College. The aim of the festival is to help inspire pupils to develop the habit of choosing to take part in PE/school sport opportunities when they arise in the future.

The children in both events got to take part in a range of fun activities which aimed to develop the pupils basic skills such as; throwing, rolling, catching and agility drills. The activities were led by first and second year sports students from Easton & Otley College.

The day was split into two separate festivals; a morning and afternoon festival. The schools that attended today were:

Morning Festival

  1. Colman Infant School
  2. Little Melton Primary School
  3. Mulbarton Primary School
  4. Valley Primary Academy

Afternoon Festival

  1. Chapel Break Infant School
  2. Eaton Primary School
  3. Norwich Primary Academy

George Harmer, Community Sport Project Officer for the SSP commented;

“It was good to see so many children taking up physical activity today, to see them learning skills they will be able to forever use when they hopefully take up sport and other physical activity in the future.”

At the end of each event, there was a presentation to the children who received an SSP Sportsmanship Award, this is given to children who show positive sportsmanlike characteristics.

The next SSP Multi Skills Festival is on January 18th for Year 1’s.
