On Wednesday over 300 pupils from 11 different schools took part in the SSP “Top of the Pops” Dance Show which was held at the OPEN Youth Venue in Norwich. Pupils represented their schools in the show and perform dances to music from some of the best selling artists from all different decades. Over 800 friends and family members of the dancers came to watch two performances of the show at the inspirational venue.

The show included pupils from Infant, Junior, Primary and High Schools and the aim is to give the children an opportunity to perform on a big stage with bright lights, professional sound and in front of a live audience of their friends and family… and they all did GREAT!

The show had a variety of different music from different decades. We had songs and dances to great 90’s hits of S Club 7, Steps and MC Hammer, recent hits from Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. Even the Beatles made an appearance in this years Top of the Pops Dance Show.

Eleven different schools participated in the TOTP Show:

  • Bignold Primary School and Nursery
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • City of Norwich School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Hethersett Academy
  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • Nelson Infant School
  • Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • Wensum Junior School
  • West Earlham Infant and Nursery School
  • West Earlham Junior School

The pupils have been supported over the last few months by Lisa McGreevy, SSP Dance Coordinator, and she has been helping the children with choreography, choosing their music and practising their routines.

Lisa commented;

“I’m so proud of all the dancers! It has been such a pleasure working with them all from the start and it is amazing to see how far they have all came. The pupils have gone through challenges along the way on this journey to the show, but it was all worth it last night when we got to see them having the time of their lives on the big stage. They should all be extremely proud of their accomplishments”.
