Over 260 children take a splash in the Year 4-6 Swimming Gala

Over 260 children take the splash and gather for the Norfolk School Games Year 4-6 Swimming Gala at the Sportspark at University of East Anglia.

11 different schools brought teams from the different school years to take part in swimming races including; freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and relays.

The schools participating this year were:

  • Avenue Junior School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Hethersett Junior School
  • Little Melton Primary School
  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • Norwich High School for Girls Preparatory School
  • Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • Valley Primary Academy

The gala had two heats for each race and the highest times over the heats decided the placing of the pupils in the chosen race.

The gala’s main aim was to give pupils an opportunity to experience a gala and encourage them to take up more swimming in the future. Many pupils experienced their first ever gala.

The event was helped delivered by volunteer sports students from Easton & Otley College, who were responsible for the timing of the lanes.

George Harmer, Project Officer commented;

“It was a great afternoon and good to see so many children taking part in some of their first galas. Over 260 children representing their schools is fantastic and all the pupils should be really proud of themselves. I hope we will see more pupils from today take up swimming outside of school and join a local swimming club.”

If your pupil enjoyed themselves in competitive swimming today, please look into a local swimming club on our Clubs Page.
