Over 100 girls take part in the Year 5-6 Football Competition on a rainy afternoon

Today, the Year 5-6 Girls Football Competition was held at the UEA Sportspark. This event forms part of the Norfolk School Games which aims to engage more pupils in competitive sport.

16 teams participated in the event from ten different schools. The schools that attended the event were;

  • Colman Junior School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Hethersett Primary School
  • Mulbarton Primary School

Each of the games consisted of one period lasting six minutes long. Teams were split into four groups and played each other in a round robin format.  Each school was awarded one point for a game one, two points for a draw and one for a loss. After all the games were played, the teams were split into cup and plate groups depending on their placements in the group stage. If there was a tie in points, the result was determined by goal difference. In the cup and plate groups, teams then played each other in another round robin style tournament. To determine final positions, all teams participate in the play-offs were the teams that finished in the same position in the cup and plate would compete.

It was a rainy afternoon but the girls participating were in high-spirits and there were great team performances across the day with narrow victories in the some of games. Certain pupils were awarded with a Sportsmanship Certificate after receiving a nomination from the school staff attending the event. Certificates are awarded to those pupils who display good qualities across the day such as having a positive attitude and being a good role model to other pupils involved.
