SLQ Sports Leaders has launched a new programme of learning designed to offer young people a pathway into volunteering through building transferable core skills. The Activity Volunteer Programme, which has been created for a collaboration of 14 Active Partnership organisations across England, offers an accredited learning pathway for young people aged 13 and over with a focus on building transferable core skills. Active Norfolk are one of the Active Partnerships offering this opportunity.
The Activity Volunteer Programme is made up of six fun bite size learning sessions which will engage your learners and introduce them to the five transferable skills needed for volunteering and employment. The sessions have been designed with flexibility in mind and can be delivered through a face-to-face approach, a blended approach or learners can access pre-recorded content. This is a fantastic way for young people to start a pathway of volunteering in a world where the usual opportunities for this are currently restricted. An online offer may suit those students that are limited in their opportunities to take part in activities outside of the school day. Please consider which pupils would benefit from this different approach.
As learners complete the programme, they can record their progress in their own personal Volunteering Skills Profile, creating an evidence record that demonstrates their growing skills. After completing all six sessions, learners are awarded their Activity Volunteer Award and certificate. We will then support them to access opportunities for volunteering in their local community.
All support, content and materials are supplied. There is provision to tutor the course for your pupils if you are unable to do so, please let Active Norfolk know. There is no expectation of how many students you have sign up – this can complement any other offer and help increase opportunities, especially for those pupils that usually may not access things like this.
Active Norfolk is aiming to start delivery of the programme to the young people the week beginning 7th June with sign-ups needed by the end of May.
If you would like to express an interest in being involved in this programme this term then please email Jo Thompson at Active Norfolk on joanne.thompson@activenorfolk.org
She will then organise a brief online information session for all those interested to find out more.
