Yesterday evening our 2022 Netball Development League concluded with the final matches being played in the sunshine at City Academy Norwich.
The league had been held over three match days, held during May and June. Ten squads had taken part with each squad consisting of up to 8 girls from Yr 5-6, with 5 on court at any time. Matches followed the new England Netball Bee Netball format.
The league was inspired by the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with each team being given a Commonwealth nation to represent. Teams were given challenges to find out about their nations netball team.
Teams were initially split into two divisions and played against each other in a round robin format twice over the three dates. The match day were 2-3 weeks apart, which gave teams the opportunity to practice their skills in between and learn lessons from their previous matches.
Jon Osborne, Head of Community Sport commented;
“Congratulations to all of the players that have taken part in the league. It has been great to be able to run it again after a break of almost 3 years due to COVID.”
“It has been great to see so many girls taking part in competitive netball matches, many for the very first time.”
“The standard of play has really developed over the three match days so well done to all of the players and their teachers for working so hard.”
