High Schools battle it out in new Handball Competition

On Thursday 24th January teams from High Schools within Norwich came together at City Academy Norwich to take part in an exciting new SSP Handball Competition.

The competition was part of the countywide Norfolk School Games programme which aims to increase the number of young people who benefit from taking part in competitive school sport.

The handball competition saw teams of pupils from Years 7-8 from the following schools take part:

  • City Academy Norwich x 2 teams
  • Notre Dame High School
  • Hethersett Academy

Squads comprised of up to 12 students from Years 7 and/or 8 with 7 on the court at any time. Teams competed against each other in a round robin format, with matches lasting 10 minutes long.

For most students it was the first time that had ever played a competitive handball match. The matches included increasingly fast and exciting action as students developed their understanding and experience of playing Handball.

Once all of the matches had been played the results were added up and the overall positions were announced:

1st – Hethersett Academy (8 points)

2nd – Notre Dame High (7 points)

3rd – City Academy Norwich A (6 points)

4th – City Academy Norwich B (3 points)
