High fives all round at the Year 5-6 High 5 Netball Competition

Today we had the SSP Year 5-6 High 5 Netball Competition which saw 15 mixed teams from 8 schools go head to head in a competition to represent Norwich in the Norfolk School Games Finals on Monday 18th June at Sportspark, UEA.

The competition was held at the Sportspark at University of East Anglia and also, City Academy Norwich’s outdoor netball courts too.

The schools that were represented were;

  • Avenue Junior School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Free School Norwich
  • Hethersett Junior School
  • Norwich High School for Girls
  • Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School

Teams were initially split into four groups of 3 or 4 teams. Teams within each group played against each other in a round robin format. The matches lasted 9 minutes in duration and were officiated by sports students from Easton & Otley College who had volunteered to support the event. Teams were awarded 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and one for a loss. Once all of those matches were completed the teams that finished 1st and 2nd in each group progressed into the Cup Competition with the teams that finished 3rd or 4th going in to the Plate Competition.

The Cup and Plate competitions were both split into two further groups with teams playing against each other. At the end of the stage the teams which finished in the same position in each group played off against each other for over all position. For example the teams that finished first in each of the Cup groups played for 1st and 2nd overall, the teams which finished 2nd in each Cup group played off for 3rd and 4th overall etc.

George Harmer, Project Officer commented;

“It was a good afternoon filled with lots of netball matches. It was great to see teams who haven’t had much experience in Netball really enjoy themselves and learn more about a new sport. I was very impressed from all the teams and the manner in which the games were played.”

The 1st and 2nd place play off was between Cringleford A and Hethersett. Cringleford A took the narrow victory of 4-3.
