This afternoon teenage girls from across Norwich stretched, toned and boxed alongside students from other local high schools at the our SSP Yr 9-11 This Girl Can Festival. The festival was part of the national This Girl Can campaign which aims to get more women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size and ability.
The festival hoped to inspire more teenage girls to get active by showcasing a selection of exciting physical activities which they might not have tried before. The girls took part in 30 minute taster sessions in boxing, yoga and booty barre. All of the activities were delivered by instructors/coaches from local organisations who offer activities in Norwich who hoped to encourage the girls to come along to their regular sessions.
Lisa McGreevy, from Norwich SSP commented;
“It was great seeing so many young girls having a go at all of the activities today and giving their all. It was lovely to overhear some of the girls at the end saying what a brilliant time they had and that they were going to look into joining some of the activities outside of school.”
Miss Hall from Hethersett Academy said;
“The students really enjoyed it! It was engaging and gave other students a chance to represent the school”.
Miss Kirwan from Notre Dame High School added;
“It was a very positive environment. It was nice to see a different group of students participate in extra curricular activities who might not normally choose to do so.”
