Girls Enjoy Football Fun at Festival

0

On Wednesday 9th March we hosted two girls football skills festivals at the Sportspark. The aim of the festivals was to give more girls the opportunity to represent their school in extracurricular school sport event.

The festival was delivered as part of our role as a Girls Football School Partnership. The role is part of the national programme organised by England Football and the Youth Sport Trust and supported by Barclays. The programme aims to give girls equal access to football in schools by 2024.

During the morning we held a festival for girls in Years 3-4 who don’t already play football. Girls were split into groups of up to 12. Each group rotated around a series of fun skill based football activities which challenged them to develop a number of fundamental football skills. Pupils from the following schools attended;

  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Charles Darwin Primary School
  • Lakenham primary School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Free School Norwich
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • Edith Cavell Academy
  • St Michaels Junior School
  • Valley Primary Academy

In the afternoon it was the turn of girls in Years 7-8 to take part in a similar festival. Students from the following schools took park.

  • City Academy Norwich
  • Jane Austen College
  • Parkside School

All activities were delivered by female sports leaders from Hethersett Academy and Jane Austen College who did a brilliant job.

Jon Osborne from Norwich SSP commented;

“It was great to see so many girls enjoying taking part in our football festivals. We are excited to be working with England Football and the Youth Sport Trust to try and help more girls in Norwich to enjoy playing football.”

“With England hosting the UEFA Women’s European Championships in July, it is an exciting time for girls and women’s football”
