CASE STUDY – Change4Life Club at West Earlham Infant and Nursery School

0

West Earlham Infant and Nursery School started their Change4Life After School Club in June and have seen such a positive impact on their pupils involved. They have had ten traditionally less active children participate in physical activities in very creative ways.

The after school club is delivered by Teaching Assistants from the school for one hour per week and they use the activity sheets and equipment provided from Change4Life to run the club. The staffing changes every term to ensure the children remain engaged and eager. The pupils have also been able to use their creativity and come up with physical activities themselves with the equipment.

At West Earlham Infant and Nursery School, the children are given the option to sign up to different clubs at the school. For the Change4Life club, the teachers encouraged the children who are not participating in other after school clubs to try the Change4Life club through conversations with them. Now with the school running the club since last summer, the club has a good reputation with the children and the children who were less active were eager to take part again.

“Every child had fun getting active in the sessions without really thinking about it as getting fit.”
– Jane Shaw, West Earlham Infant and Nursery School.

The staff have noted that the children were conscious of their body related to the space and the environment around them. Also, seeing the sessions were very enjoyable for the pupils.

“It’s great to see all the work West Earlham Infant and Nursery School are doing with their Change4Life After School Club and seeing them providing opportunities for all children to participate in physical activity in a fun, creative and enjoyable way.”
– George Harmer, Project Officer.
