80 Pupils Get Active at the SSP Yr3-6 Inclusive Sports Festival

Today we held the SSP Yr3-6 Inclusive Sports Festival at the UEA Sportspark. The purpose of the festival is to allow pupils with a Special Educational Need or Disability the opportunity to represent their school at a sports event offsite, introduce them to new sports and activities and encourage them to be active.

The event was attended by 8 schools. These schools were;

  • Bignold Primary School
  • Bluebell Primary School
  • Charles Darwin Primary School
  • Eaton Primary School
  • Hethersettt Woodside Primary School
  • Lakenham Primary School
  • Valley Primary Academy
  • West Earlham Junior School

Each school was placed into a group with another school, giving the pupils the opportunity to meet new people and make friends with pupils from another school. Each group had the opportunity to participate in four different activities. These activities were;

  • Boccia
  • Boxing/Boxercise
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis

At the end of the event, some pupils were presented with a Sportsmanship Award. These pupils were nominated by their teachers and school staff for display sportsman-like qualities across the day, such as having a positive attitude and showing respect.

Overall, it was a fantastic day and great to see so many pupils from different schools engaged.

Ms Lopez from Eaton Primary School said;

“It was a rewarding experience for all the pupils and it was great to see the inclusion of all the children doing each of the activities”

Mr Frere-Smith from Charles Darwin said;

“It was a very positive event. There as an excellent differentiation of activities for the pupils to try”.

Thank you to all of the coaches for coming in and for leading each of the activities, and to the sports students from City College Norwich for supporting the coaches throughout the event.

Photographs from the event can be viewed in the Photo Gallery.
