Yesterday afternoon approximate 220 pupils represented their schools in the SSP’s Yr 5-6 Sportshall Athletics Competition at the Sportspark. The event aimed to provide more young people with the opportunity to represent their schools in competitive school sport.
The competition was part of the county wide Norfolk School Games programme and acted as a qualifying event for the School Games Finals on Monday 26th February.
Schools had been invited to enter teams of up to 10 boys and 10 girls to compete in a range of fun sportshall athletics track and field events, including;
Track Events – obstacle relay, 1 + 1 lap relay, 2 + 2 relay, under/over relay, 5 lap Paarlauf, 4 x 1 lap relay
Field Events – speed bounce, chest push, standing long jump, standing triple jump, foam javelin and vertical jump.
All of the activities were delivered by sports students from Easton & Otley College.
The following schools took part in the competition;
Pupils were allowed to take part in a maximum of 2 track events and two field events. Pupils scored points for their teams based on their performance in each event.
At the end of the event the scores were added together to give the overall results for boys and girls teams. The headline results were;
1st – Cringleford Primary (222 points)
2nd – St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary (214 points)
3rd – Bignold Primary (182 points)
1st – St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary (206 points)
2nd – Bignold Primary (194 points)
3rd – Cringleford Primary (192 points)

The boys team from St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary and the girls team from Cringleford Primary will now be invited to represent the Norwich SSP in the Norfolk School Games Finals on Monday 26th February at the Sportspark.
The SSP will also be hosting a Sportshall Athletics Competition for pupils in Years 3&4 on Thursday 30th November at the Sportspark.
