Yesterday we had at our SSP ThisGirlCan Festival where female high school students from City Academy Norwich, Notre Dame High School, Jane Austin College and Hewitt Academy came together to take part in multiple physical activities.
The festival will aim to encourage more girls in Yr 9-11 who wouldn’t traditionally engage with school sport to represent their school at a event alongside pupils from other schools.
We hope that this will help them to develop the habit of being active in their own time which they can continue when they leave school. The festival will give girls the opportunity to try a range of exciting lifestyle physical activities.
This year we had a list of different activities; Yoga, Crossfit, Zumba and Boogie Bounce. Local instructors came to City Academy Norwich to deliver these activities which gave the students a pathway to clubs in the local community.
If you are interesed in any clubs, you can find them on our Clubs Page.
Lisa McGreevy, Dance Coordinator for the SSP said;
“It was great to see all the girls engage with all the activities and try them out for the first time. The girls came out buzzing and red faced after and I’m hoping this will lead them onto physical exercise outside of school. I would like to thank the female instructors for being such positive role models for the girls. I hope this will encourage the girls that PE & Sport can be for them too!”
You can find photos from the festival in our Photo Gallery.
The next ThisGirlCan Festival is Monday 5th March 2018.
