Over 600 pupils take part in SSP Cross Country Competition in Earlham Park


Yesterday afternoon over 600 pupils from 16 different schools took part in the SSP Yr 2-6 Cross Country Competition. The event was held in the beautiful surroundings of Earlham Park and saw pupils running around a challenging course around the park in autumnal conditions.

The event was part of the county wide Norfolk School Games programme which aims to give more young people the opportunity to represent their school in competitive school sport.

Pupils from the following schools took part;

  • Bluebell Primary School
  • West Earlham Infant School
  • Wensum Junior School
  • St Francis of Assisi Primary School
  • Cringleford Primary School
  • Colman Junior School
  • West Earlham Junior School
  • Norwich Primary Academy
  • Free School Norwich
  • Hethersett Junior School
  • Little Melton Primary School
  • Valley Primary Academy
  • Notre Dame Prep School
  • Mulbarton Primary School
  • Bignold Primary School
  • Avenue Junior School

The event catered for boys and girls in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 with pupils running different distances depending on their age. The approximate race distances were as below;

  • Yr 2 Boys & Girls = 1000m
  • Yr 3-4 Boys & Girls = 1200m
  • Yr 5-6 Boys & Girls – 1400m

The event was supported by sports students from Easton and Otley College who acted as marshals and lead/tail runners for all of the races.

The SSP would like to thank Norwich City Council for supporting the event by allowing us to hold it in Earlham Park.

We would also like to thank the staff at the Earlham Park Cafe for opening on what would normally be their day off to ensure that staff and spectators at the event were supplied with hot drinks.

The top ten placed boys and girls from Years 3-6 will be invited to represent the SSP at the Norfolk School Games Yr 3-6 Cross Country Finals on Wednesday 28th February.
