On Thursday 4th November Lakenham Primary School hosted the Norwich School Sport Partnership Yr 4-6 Quicksticks Hockey Competition. The competition was run in partnership with Norwich Dragons Hockey Club.
Quicksticks is the England Hockey Board's Introductory game designed specifically for Primary Schools and 7-11 year olds.
Eleven teams entered the competition and they were split into two groups. Within each group teams played each other using a round robin format. After all of the games were played the below final standings were calculated:
Group 1
1st - Bignold Primary 1 (11pts)
2nd - Avenue Junior 1 (9pts)
=3rd - Notre Dame Prep 2 (8pts)
=3rd - Lakenham Primary 1 (8pts)
5th - Lakenham Primary 3 (4pts)
Group 2
1st - Lakenham Primary 4 (14pts)
2nd - Lakenham Primary 5 (12pts)
3rd - Notre Dame Prep 1 (10pts)
4th - Lakenham Primary 2 (9pts)
5th - Bignold Primary 2 (8pts)
6th - Avenue Junior 2 (7pts)
The winners from the two groups, Bignold Primary 1 and Lakenham Primary 4, then played each other in the grand final to decide who would be crowned 2010 Norwich SSP Quicksticks champions.
After a very close match it was the team from Lakenham Primary School that were victorious with a scoreline of 2:1.
Both of the teams that played in the grand final will now be invited to represent Norwich SSP at the Norfolk Quicksticks County Final being held on Friday 19th November at the UEA Sportspark.
Hockey in Norwich is on the up at the moment with Norwich Dragons having recently started work on the construction of two new astroturf hockey pitches on the Hewett School field. Coaches from the club have also been working with local Primary schools within the Hewett School cluster to help introduce and develop hockey.

"I am really pleased and proud that two of the schools that we have been working with made the final today. It was such an exciting final and I look forward to watching some of the pupils grow up as members of our club"
